Many astrophysical systems involve the formation of a disk of gas or solids in orbit around a primary central mass. In this talk I will describe a series of applications of celestial mechanics and hydrodynamics in systems of stars, planets, and planetary debris. I will provide a basic overview of the classic three-body problem, and show how it informs our understanding of complex dynamical systems even in the modern era.
