The origin of fermion masses and mixings remains one of the deepest puzzles in particle physics. While the Standard Model successfully describes the known particles and their interactions, it fails to explain the striking flavor structure of the quarks and leptons. In this talk, I explore how discrete flavor symmetries can provide a framework for understanding lepton mixing.  In particular, I highlight the role that group presentations can play in this paradigm.
